About this resource
WSP prepared a report to support Environment Canterbury (ECan) in understanding the benefits and efficacy of sediment detainment bunds in the upper tributaries of the Washdyke Waitarakao Lagoon Catchment. The aim was to manage sediment, nutrients, and stream flow conditions effectively. The report includes:
- A literature review of sediment bunds and other offline water retention systems to assess their potential for reducing sediment, phosphorus, and nitrogen loss.
- A desktop review of the local environment, topography, and past flood imagery (where publicly available) to evaluate the efficacy of these systems in the Waitarakao Washdyke catchment.
- High-level concept design drawings illustrating key design elements and operational methodologies.
- Recommendations for sediment and nutrient mitigation systems tailored to the Waitarakao Washdyke catchment.
