Join us to celebrate the success of the ‘Access 2 Experts’ service at our free knowledge sharing webinars.
Access 2 Experts (A2E) invites you to join a special three-part webinar series aimed at sharing insights from catchment groups, regional councils and iwi and hapū cases.
These webinars will highlight the distinct challenges and aspirations of three different user groups, equipping you with the tools and knowledge to confidently support freshwater management.
We encourage you to register for any sessions that interest you and join us on the day using the links provided below. Together we can learn, share, and collaborate to improve freshwater outcomes.

Join us to hear a conversation facilitated by Jenny Vince (Beca), with Aimee Dawson (WSP), Roger Young (Cawthron), and Taryn Smith (Beca) sharing insights on A2E cases delivered for local councils.
Aimee will discuss her work with Bay of Plenty Regional Council on biophysical risk mapping, which supports land managers and landowners to make decisions to help meet catchment targets.
Roger will present into his work supporting Taranaki Regional Council in best practice approaches for applying ecosystem metabolism as a measure of ecosystem health including insights on effective dissolved oxygen monitoring.
Taryn will share insights from Auckland Council’s Fish Passage Improvement Programme, focusing on the development of a data management system for tracking works and recording remediated barriers to fish passage.
As the facilitator for this session, Jenny Vince (Beca) is currently a planning Technical Director in Community Shaping. Through her work with Auckland Council Healthy Waters, she was able to help secure funding through the A2E process to develop the GIS tool to manage information for the fish passage resource consent.
Knowledge Connect: Iwi and Hapū
23rd June | 10.30am - 11.30am

Join us for our second webinar, which Troy Brockbank (Beca) will be facilitating and presenting, alongside Kati Doehring (Cawthron) and Amy Whetu (The Stream Ltd) as they share on inspiring A2E cases led by iwi and hapū.
Kati worked with Nga Kaitiaki o Nga Wai Māori (NKONWM) to enhance water quality in the Upper Waiora Catchment. Through expert advice and GIS mapping training, the project supported NKONWM to protect ecosystems, support sustainable practices, and engage the community and stakeholders in a collaborative approach to freshwater management intertwined with Mātauranga Māori.
Amy will share insights on her work supporting mana whenua groups across Aotearoa in utilising the digital platform The Stream to enhance kaitiaki capability and decision-making aligned with Te Mana o Te Wai.
As the facilitator for this session Troy Brockbank (Te Rarawa, Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi, Ngātiwai, Ngāti Kahu) is a civil engineer, water practitioner, cultural navigator, and Te Mana o te Wai Lead at Beca. He integrates Tangata Whenua values into environmental solutions and has supported A2E projects by building capability in Te Mana o te Wai and applying a te ao Māori lens to freshwater management, including strategy and roadmap development with tangata whenua entities.
Knowledge Connect: Catchment Groups

In our final session facilitated by James Ryan (Beca), we will be hearing from experts Duncan Gray (PDP), Ric Balfour (NZ Landcare Trust), and Juliet Milne (Traverse) on their work with local catchment groups.
Duncan will be talking to the West Coast Farm Plan project where expert support was needed to support farmer resources in understanding water quality monitoring and explore ways to undertake monitoring at a catchment level on the West Coast of New Zealand.
Ric will present on behalf of the Mangahia Catchment Group, highlighting how the development of a GIS based resource integrating land, environmental, and planning data by Beca experts, is supporting the group’s restoration and water quality improvement efforts.
Juliet will share insights from the Lower/Upper Taieri case where she collaborated with the Upper Taieri catchment group to collate, interpret and communicate existing surface water quality and ecological data for the lower Taieri/Taiari River in the catchment. The information was presented in a meaningful way to help landowners make decisions about practical actions to improve freshwater quality.
As the facilitator for this session, James Ryan (Beca) manages the Environmental and Sustainability Advisory team at Beca. He previously managed the New Zealand Farm Environment Trust, a charity focused on promoting sustainable farming and growing. James is passionate about working with communities to shape enduring environmental and sustainable outcomes.
